FINDING WORK
IN NORWAY
Nationals of countries in the European Economic Area (EEA – UK and all the other EU countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) have the right to live and work in Norway without a work permit. They have the same rights as Norwegian nationals with regard to pay, working conditions, access to housing, social security and trade union membership.
Job Centers in Norway: The national Employment Service
(“arbeidskontor”) have offices throughout the country offering free advice and assistance in finding a job. They have lists of jobs currently available, and have information about schools and education. They offer a brochure “Welcome to the Employment Service” which is translated into many different languages.
Private Agencies in Norway: Private agencies
(“vikarutleie”) cover mainly temporary work. Major
agencies include Manpower, Adecco and Proffice. They all
charge a fee for their services.
Newspapers: The most important national newspaper
carrying job adverts is Aftenposten. The regional
newspapers also carry job adverts.
Internet: We're working on a board at this site where
you can post work adverts, both for hiring and seekers.
